A Plethora of Projects

I have been so busy the last week getting to grips with a whole range of projects. In the recent past I have been working under a bit of pressure on one project at a time, mainly blankets, but all of a sudden I have no blanket and a whole host of other things and ideas invading my head. I have therefore been trying to organise them.

I now have so many bags from Crochet Retreats and Made and Making  ‘Makes’ that each project has a bag of it’s own. The exception is the first one listed which I keep in an old handbag as it makes an excellent thing to have on one’s lap for something so small.

So first of course there’s my socks.sock project in bag A background project for trains and buses and any time when there’s nothing else or my wrists are hurting with too much crochet. Not that it’s very popular at present. the yarn is rough and the colours aren’t exactly exciting. This is the last of my full balls of sock yarn. (I have kept my vow not to buy any more until I have used up all the leftovers from previous pairs. )

It wasn’t exactly my choice; it was given to me in one of those can’t refuse moments, when someone comes up to you and says “I know you knit socks, so I thought you would like this.” Since I had heard of Noro yarn, ball of Noro yarnI was curious, in spite of the colours, but it is hand wash only and I am not really enjoying using it.

Next project: the other side of the cushion cover, project design booknot urgent in any way. The knot is a ‘love knot’ so  I have raided my box of potential blanket colours for some red and added enough neutral coloured yarn, just so I am ready when I am in the mood. It has it’s own bag.cushion cover project in bag

The project I moved onto after the first half of the cushion cover, being more crochet flowers from the retreat, is housed appropriately in the Stylecraft bag. flower project in bagI branched out and created a sunflower but seeing it next to one of the daisies, smaller sunflower and daisy compared I thought that I need to make the centre a little larger.larger sunflower and daisy comparedStill only a small sunflower but a better size.

Even this project, though, got put aside when something else came up.

Ravelry have something called the Ravellenics that happens during the Olympics and and the Colourful CAL’s/KAL’s & Projects Group that I belong to has started asking for recruits. This will be the first time I have taken part, so I studied what happened during past events before deciding to join in. The suggestion is that you choose something that is new or challenging and create something during the fortnight that it runs for in July/August time. Well one sort of crochet that I certainly find challenging  and definitely avoid in spite of the amazing patterns out there is Mosaic Crochet. There are two sorts of mosaic crochet: inset

and overlay.sample of overlay mosaic crochetNow if I am going to do any mosaic crochet it has to be overlay because square designs come out square and my favourite designs look best square. I have an idea of something that I think I could make in a fortnight and here is a tiny section of a trial I made in a Greek Meander pattern.trial of overlay mosaic crochetjust to check it wasn’t going to be too difficult.

Haven’t decided on what I will chose to use yet but there is plenty of time. It did help to draw out a chart and the added crosses are a real help.

This is not everything on the list and I am working on two new patterns.

My Cross Bookmark pattern and my Celtic Knot Coaster are both very popular patterns

My cross bookmarkMy Celtic coaster
and I have ideas for variants of these that I think some people might like.

They too have their own bags.two projects in bagsAnd last but not least, I have bought the yarn to remake my Rainbow Knot Baby Blanket.Rainbow Celtic Knot Baby Blanket on chairIt was made for a friends grandchild with background colour chosen by the parents. In the event, I didn’t think that the green, blue, violet section stood out as well as it should. I have therefore been thinking of remaking it with a cream background. Not top of the list but it too has it’s own bag.

It has been quite fun though moving the bags from place to place as I work on first one and then another project.
