Signs of Spring

Although it is Winter and pretty cold here this past week, there are already signs of the coming Spring.

I have hardly been out in the garden these last few weeks but I have been aware just lately that the primroses were beginning to open.three primrosesOne on another plant looked a bit nibbled but here is a perfect one.single primroseI believe that even humans can eat primroses, though I never have, so I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised if other creatures find them tasty.

Near the fence there were some Leucojum.Leucojum by fenceLike the primroses, I acquired these when other people were thinning out an excess of plants.

Here you can see both outer and inner more closely.Leucojum close lookI rather regret that the exuberant growth of my Spring Hellebore has killed off my Christmas roses. It’s buds however are here already.Pink HelleboreAgain I will show you a closer view.Hellebore budI always think how beautiful flowers are when you have time to look at them closely.

I will leave you with a little crochet. I am still working on the blanket I showed you last week. I now have only three more row of the colourful portion but I decided to make a start on the cover for my cushion that I showed you.

I am using the yarn left over from the Springfrost blanket and I think that I will need about thirty rows that is twice the number of different colours.

I completed the first six colours this afternoon.six colours / 12 rows.
This evening I completed another six.

  1. Our tiny iris and the Snowflakes are always the first out. Worth a closer look. I picket up some Hellebores from Morrisons for 40p each the other day and they look smashing!
