My New Top – Final Reveal

I find it really frustrating that the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome plus recovering from COVID means that I haven’t had the energy to produce perfect photographs lately. Not that I could claim that my ‘perfect’ photographs are of a professional standard. But they did used to be better.

Another problem is that my camera seems to struggle with reproducing blues accurately, especially the sort of jade, peacock or turquoise blue that are my favourites. For this top it is also struggling with the green.

I wasn’t sure whether to add fastenings to the top or not and I took a photograph of the top worn without. It is intended as a top for the Spring/Summer but although I put on a T-shirt for the photograph, I am wearing my winter trousers.

I do find that I like clothes that stay in place all by themselves, So I decided that I would add the buttons that I had in mind.

They are buttons that I had bought originally when making the top for my granddaughter.cardigan for granddaughterI realised when they came that they were too small and bought some larger ones.

It is worth saying, as an aside, that I do not recommend buying wooden buttons on-line, even though they are hard to get locally. In each case one of the four buttons received was imperfect but it was not economic to send them back. One of the large buttons was damaged on the wrong side, so at least it doesn’t show. One of the buttons, you are about to see added to my top, had smaller holes than the others. With three of the buttons I could thread some yarn on a tapestry needle and thread through the holes. With the last one I had to use a thinner needle and pull the yarn through by wrapping some cotton over it and pulling that through.

So here is the top with the buttons added.Top with buttons addedThe buttons will be held together with double loops that will be removable so that if I want to wear it without fastening at any time I can.

I took a photograph of the back as well.Back of the topYou may notice that in the second photograph of the front the blue is better, though still not the exact shade and the green is much too pale in both.

I finally finished the top on Friday evening but that night my wrists were quite painful, probably from all those rounds of back post, front post stitches, so maybe a little less crochet for a while.

To finish here are some photographs of my wearing the completed top. Never an easy thing to do (the photographing – not the wearing) as I have to use the delay button on the camera and prop it on the window sill with something under the front to keep it at the right angle and then hurry across the room.

This time I did put on my summer trousers before I took the photographs.

But here is the front, with the buttons held together with crochet loops.Wearing the top - front
And here is a back view. Top worn - back
The top is actually quite warm so it might do for winter as well as Spring.
